The incredible colour saturated finish of an Ilfochrome photograph
requires a super smooth mounting surface for the best
effect. An inferior mounting technique can result in the photograph
wrinkling.
Any framer can frame a photograph, but only a professional who
has experience mounting Ilfochrome (formerly Cibachrome) photographs
will do it justice. We therefore highly recommend the services
of our very own in-house master framer who has extensive experience
in mounting and framing techniques. This will help ensure that
your limited edition work of art will be preserved for future generations.
We suggest selecting a mat colour that does not compete with the
image. The most popular colours are traditionally Black, Black
with White Bevel edge, or a White or Cream mat. Whatever your choice
of frame and matting, the aim is to provide a beautiful well-balanced
combination that enhances the work of art without overpowering
it.
We also offer very competitive freight
rates anywhere in the world
for limited edition framed photographs. Simply record your frame
and mat choice on the order page.
Our choice of mat is the conservation grade ‘Rag Mat’.
As an Ilfochrome photograph is designed to stand the test of time
by retaining its colours and not fading so too should all materials
that come into contact with it. A mat is not only essential to
keep the glass from contacting the work of art, but it also enhances
the ‘Window into the Scene’ effect.
There are cheaper mats that look similar, but only the 100% cotton
Rag Mat will last like the photograph and not damage it. The conservation
grade Rag Mat is far superior with fade resistance and is recommended
for museum quality fine art.

In areas of excess illumination or daylight we recommend the use
of a 97% UV Glass to protect your work of art. (97% UV Glass is
not available in the 150 x 50cm size so a 98% acrylic is used instead.)
UV Acrylic and UV Glass both come in either ‘Clear’ or ‘Reflection
Control’ (non-reflective). However, if you have your work
hung in a reflection prone area it is a far more pleasing result
to use spotlights as a form of reflection control.

No Limited Edition Ilfochrome is complete without the amazing ‘Illumination-Effect’ of
a ceiling downlight. A downlight dramatically adds life to the
image by highlighting the vast array of intense colours that the
Ilfochrome’s are famous for, even in the shadow areas. An
Ilfochrome Limited Edition Gallery photograph is designed to be
used in conjunction with a downlight or spotlight.
Downlights are also a great alternative to ‘non-reflective
glass’ in areas where a degree of reflection control is needed.
Raised or flush mounted ceiling downlights can be readily purchased
from most lighting shops at a minimal cost. Use a ‘50 watt,
30 degree EXZ Dichroic Halogen’ bulb for downlights no more
than 2-3 metres away from the image. Your local electrician can
wire your downlight directly into the main light switch, or will
convert your existing single switch panel into a double switch
panel.
